So we all know what happened with me in the Boxster in December, well when I replaced the car privilage didn't charge me any extra for the remainder of the policy. Great I thought they would try and sting me come renewal - how wrong could I be? With 20k's worth of claim against me they dropped my premium by more than £200.... WIN! to put this into context they are considerably cheaper than any other insurer on the compare websites.

So with an accident against me I still insure the 911 cheaper than the boxster :)

I wrote off a Boxster S - no other cars involved - my fault and took down a wall and a tree.

So you had an accident which was your fault and cost your insurance company 20k and it costs you less, I have an accident which was someone elses fault (they ran into the back of me) costs my insurance company nothing and they put mine up just because I reported it.

I remember your thread re your Porsche
What are you driving now?

Also, in relation to your thread my new insurance is now with Privilege as they came up the so much cheaper than anyone else when it came down to my annual quote. My previous insurer (Admiral) were £107.00 over what I'm paying at the moment to Privilege, when I phoned them up to question this they advised me if I wanted to re new over the phone (as opposed to tinternet) there would be a £15.00 "admin charge"

Needless to say they got told to shove it where the sun doesn't shine - and I'm now another happy Privilege customer :)

I am now driving a 996 Porsche 911 C4 so a more powerful and arguably more desirable car, I posted some photos in the show us your motor thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=21348038&postcount=13759

As for Privilage, they paid out on my accident within about a week. They held my car in storage while I sorted out my plate and arranged every detail of the scrappage down to me getting parts off the car as well as putting me in touch with the local salvage company where the car is now. Their first offer on my car was exactly what I paid for it plus the excess value and I gladly accepted.

The whole thing was over within a month, a new tree has been planted and the wall repaired. I have to be honest they were faultless through the whole process. To come back with the cheapest quote again is simply beyond what I expected.

So far the best insurance company I have used by a country mile.

I can't explain why this has worked out this way and how some people get punished for what is not their fault. From my point of view accidents do happen and I was expecting to pay for mine however this time I seem to have dodged a bullet.

You are right though sometimes it sucks how they work.

Probably some sort of change in rating that had a bigger effect on your premium than the effect that a fault claim has had, afterall all that matters is the fact that you had a fault claim, the value is often irrelevant, wether you clipped a wing mirror causing £50 of damage or flipped your car at 150MPH wiping out a bus queue full of OAP's (assuming this didn't land you a conviction) and landed the insurer with a few million in injury claims, the increase in premium will sometimes be the same . As for being charged for claims that are not their fault, well some insurers just plain suck!

Insurance makes no sense.

Just renewed my policy with Admiral but while playing with the options I discovered that the following actually make your insurance more expensive:

- Having an Immobiliser (Cheapest option is to select No Security)
- Parking in a Garage (Cheapest option is parking on street!)
- Having a cheap car (Car value at £5000 rather than £4900 saved £20)

Oh and if you're Married then you are the same risk as a Single person. Yet Co-Habiting is significantly cheaper.

Plus then you have the fun of finding the cheapest job title that matches your profession. :o

Also for some weird reason when I brought my D.O.B forward a few days by accident, the price went down £30. They changed it back on the phone but kept the lower quote.

Still, without Admiral I'd be paying double as no other insurer comes close for me.

For what it is worth I didn't bother playing with too many options, I will give it to them how it is, the car stays in a locked garage most of the week comes out at weekends and if me and the mrs go out.

I will also pay an extra £150 to protect my no claims but before I take the policy I am still waiting for another insurance company to come back to me, ruby are a company I have used before and specialise in performance cars so if they are significantly cheaper (which I doubt) I may go with them.

Oh yeah, always best to tell them the truth otherwise you're just paying hundreds of pounds for an invalid policy. :p

I was just surprised at how some of the choices you'd expect to bring the price down actually cost you more.

Out of interest if you don't mind telling us, how much is that in total, be interesting to compare what you pay with me! :D

Strangely, I've found that having a car value between £10k and £14k is the cheapest with Admiral (for me at least!)

I've always wondered about the car value thing - how are they to know you didn't pay £10k for it? :p

Total is about £700 fully comp with 6 years protected no claims. 12k miles, no courtesy car, legal cover - Kept in the garage during the day and at night. Think thats about it.

Ruby will be calling me back today but to be honest I can't see them beating the price.
