Hi all

Strange one and dont know where to put it so happy for a MOD to move if they think of a more appropriate place.

Last night I decided with the HDD I have lying around to just connect them via SATA ports to my pc, rather then caddying them one at a time when I need the data.

So I connected up my other 3 HDD (SATA 2, 3.5" normal drives)
So my PC now had:

Samsung SSD boot
750GB HDD
2 x 2TB HDD
1 x 1TB HDD

All these drives were fine before going into PC using the caddy.
Now they crash all the time I try to move files around on them, or even open the files on them.

Any ideas?

Im using a Asus Z87 board with a 4770K at STOCK SPEED. Nothing else has changed. I ran AVG scan and no errors.

I have all 6 SATA 2 ports used now is that the issue? (Cant see how)

Cheers

Sheldon

possible conflict with something else that shares the SATA Controller eg PCIE
Does the board have a Marvel and Intel SATA Controller ?

Its a Asus Z87-K. Im trying with 1 drive unplugged so only 2x HDD and a SSD.
It will work with all the drives but only transfer say 1GB and then crash.
Ive tryed swapping SATA leads around but with no luck. What about all being off the same power rail? (Again I doubt it)

So I have been to Asus site:

http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/Z87K/HelpDesk_Download/

Downloaded the 3 latest drivers -

Intel Smart Connect Technology V4.2.41.2549 for Windows Win7 32bit & Win7 64bit & Win8 32bit & Win8 64bit & Win8.1 32bit & Win8.1 64bit.

Intel Rapid Start Technology Software V3.0.0.1056 for Windows 7/8/8.1 32bit & 64bit.

Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver Software V12.8.0.1016 for Windows 7/8/8.1 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)
Intel(R) AHCI/RAID Driver for Windows 7/8/8.1 32bit & 64bit.

Not sure which one so did all 3!

Turns out I only needed Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology Driver Software, so installed that one and restarted.
