I hate iTunes, for me it never works as I want it to work. Mac or PC, it doesn't matter, it just takes a few days and once again it fails me.

So my latest issue.

Why does it keep trying to download my entire music collection when I already have it downloaded? I boot up iTunes and off it goes downloading thousands of records I have stored already in my Music Directory!!!!

The directory sits on my NAS. Preferences are clearly pointing the NAS so it isn't that issue. I put a CD in, and it uploads to said NAS Music folder. But each and every time I load iTunes off it goes, trying to download everything I have. I am a Match user but it is doing my ******* head in and I am ready to kill Steve Jobs again.

So I have tried to limit the points of failure and I'm tired of trying to get iTunes to perform with a NAS due to OSX's **** file handling. I did a fresh install of iTunes, removed it thoroughly, unticked automatically download purchases etc and STILL it's off downloading music. I give up.

***** ***** ***** software!!!!!!

So I do a clean install, the entire iTunes, using a removal tool. I deleted all content from the hard disk too and re-install. It goes on, links to my account and identifies lots of stuff to download. So I let it, thinking well lets see how that works. It goes off on it's merry way and I head off to bed. I come back to it and the ******* thing is STILL where it was just as I stood up, processing 3 music files. WTF is it with this utter **** application. I can't win.

Windows/OSX it doesn't matter.
Old install new install it doesn't matter
Fresh OS old OS it doesn't matter
Let it do exactly what it tells me it wasn't to do, it doesn't matter

I know some of you pipe up with "it always works fine for me" well help me. I am doing nothing clever, I am letting it do what it tells me it wants to do, both platforms and it still ***** up.

I needed to vent.

Have you got your iTunes library synced to a phone or tablet?

If you have remove all your music there first and then sort out iTunes on your computer.

Yes I've done that. I have been very thorough as I hate issues like this that seem to have no valid reason. I have been removing all of the duplicates from iTunes Match too. I can only imagine at some point it has become confused, so I had some albums with 2 copies of each record in them. I have gone through each one and removed the duplicates to try and get that sorted. I suspect however next time iTunes Match does a check back, they will appear again, but fingers crossed.

It is utterly ******!!!

It keeps trying to download stuff that I have already downloaded, both Music and Audiobooks that exist on the hard drive and are seen within iTunes. WTF is the matter with this application!!

The web is littered with people with the exact same problems, there are hundreds of threads with people with the EXACT issues, the threads full of people posting "me too" but no one seems able to resolve it.

I feel your pain - I had a similar issue after I purchased a season pass and upgraded the SSD in my MBP. However, I resolved mine by following the steps I posted above.

I would contact Apple support if one of your devices still has Applecare as this is an iCloud issue.

OK, I think a resolution might be close. I fired off an email to Apple, who came back in 30 mins. It seems some time back during my last issue of books vanishing, they put ALL of my content onto download again, so it's been sitting in a queue and constantly presenting itself to me!! This does not explain the duplication of files, but I am presently awaiting said support member to remove said files from my queue and then I can revisit.
