More Meat please! (Thread about good steak)

Since you ask... For general shopping, Waitrose, though for meats I try to go to the butchers at least once a week, though the counter at Waitrose is pretty decent for a supermarket IMO - and I'm a food snob.

Convenience shopping I go to Sainsbury's - and again their counters aren't too bad sometimes, but that's usually for convenience emergency purchases, as it takes about 25mins to go to Waitrose and 5 mins to go to Sainsbury's.

The butcher is walking distance but there's often a queue so you have to time it right ;)

I'm sure Asda is better than I give it credit for, it just appears cheap and nasty to me - however if you all tell me the quality is high then I shall believe you - however I'd be comparing it to the butcher's and what I can get at Waitrose. :)

I find Tesco Finest, 28 day hung beef is quite good - costs a bit more but worth it imo :)

ooh la la Monsieur Freefaller ;) Waitrose for the win (dunno why f t w is starred) :D

I agree - I genuinely think that it is better quality, and frankly the price difference is minimal. Furthermore I don't purchase things like (for the sake of an example) heinz beans from there as it doesn't make sense to, as I go there for separate quality products. The whole shopping experience is much more pleasant in Waitrose stores too. So there you go, as you say Waitrose ftw! ;)

If it's decent beef and has been well reared and prepared and hung I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be good. However I boycott Tesco as I just don't like them :p

why do you get to post *** and not me

I'm a believer in 'you get what you pay for'...

Cos I rock and you don't ;)

Ditto, though to a certain extent, I have the wool very much not pulled over the eyes when it comes to such things - there are some things that are just not worth it. Ultimately I know what I like and what I want and what I'm willing to pay for it. :)

As far as my diet's concerned I'm a gym/bodybuilding type so nutrition is important to me, hence why I don't mind spending money on quality product. I believe in "**** in = **** out", so I try and minimise the **** I put in. :)

Best steak I've ever had was a fillet steak, medium, sat ontop of a round potato croquette covered in the nicest peppercorn sauce I've ever tasted. Cus the chef was feelin generous I had the largest fillet steak they had.

I can't get over how good it tasted. Plus it was free! (parents felt sorry for me going back to uni so they thought they'd rub in how poorly I'd be eating over the following few weeks, so they paid the 20 odd quid).

Any particular reason?

Too big, too powerful, they're everywhere and especially their "expresses" which nick business from smaller retailers like Spas etc... They're not the only ones, I think Sainsbury's do the same... I don't know, there's just something about Tesco I don't like - it's completely unjustified and irrational. :o

It's like shopping in Carrefour in stead of Auchan :p

Tesco Express/ Metro = lose :(

edit: can only mods get away with abbreviating for the win then?Maintenant on va faire une cyber greve mdr :D

Fair enough. They do seem to be pretty much omnipresent but they got like that because they offer what the customer wants.
I personally don't mind them but I wouldn't dream of criticising anyone who dislikes them - I have a similar dislike for the way Sony conduct their business and refuse to buy any of their products.

Hate's a strong word, I just avoid them as much as possible. As I said it's irrational, something just irks me about them... I'm odd anyway you know that ;)

Tesco express = win.

Lets be honest, the good butchers etc are still doing very well. Yes the rubbish butchers and other stores have closed down. But that;'s there fault.

And yay for not having to spend ridicules amounts of money at spar and other type of shops, which is what tesco express is having the biggest impact on. Although spa is my closest and I wish tesco would shut them down.

You are of course entitled to your opinion. But for me, quality > convenience - but I'm a health freak and love my food so I'm not typical of the UK populace.

I had a feeling that you were a Waitrose man and there is nothing wrong with being a food snob, eat the best you can afford :)
