Hi I posted a thread a couple of days ago about my networking issues. I thought id post again with a load more information in the hope someone would be able to help me a bit further.

Ok so the problem i am having is that i have a wee home network going and it was working fine until last week when one pc stopped seeing the others.

Heres a run through on the setup i am using

ADSL connects to a linksys AG241 router (latest firmware) 3 computers and a PS3 connect to this through wired connection.
The 3 pcs (2 desktops and one laptop) all have xp Sp2 installed.
I ran the network connection wizard on all pcs and gave them all the same details (workgroup name, enabled file sharing)

All stations can connect to the internet no worries.

The problem i am having is that the 2 desktops (mediapc and stevespc) can see each other and share all the files i want them too. The laptop on the other hand cannot see either and the pcs cannot see it.

In the original post i got a reply telling me to ping, i stupidly did a ping test for the internet not one for the network. My bad.
so i have done a network ping and it has thrown up some interesting results.

*i obtained the ip addresses for each pc by doing cmd> ipconfig and using the pi address from that*

is that right??

Anyway here are the results i got

Mediapc ----> Steves pc can ping ok 0% loss
Stevespc ----> Media pc can ping ok 0% loss
Stevespc ----> laptop request timed out
mediapc -----> laptop request timed out.

now here the bit that has me stumped

laptop to ----> media pc ping ok 0% loss
laptop ----> steves pc Ping ok. 0%loss

Heres some more info on what i have done and how things are set up.
All the LAN connections on all 3 workstations are set up the same. They all are set to choose everything automatically, ip address', dns etc

On the laptop i have uninstalled and reinstalled the network adapter, updated to the most recent driver. Shared all the files i want to share manually. Checked permissions. (i did it all through simple file sharing orignally on all pcs) rechecked permissions.

So i am now completely clueless as to what is going on.

Any help anybody can give me would be great.

Cheers

Dave

HI quackers, all the pcs have windows firewall installed only. Nothing else.

I have tried the laptop with and without same results.

Thank you

Dave

The laptop isn't setup to be wireless and its pretty old so i don't even think it has inbuilt wireless at all.
I will check that nothing is disabled in the device manager.

just connects to the router, which is about 1 foot away from it through a cat5e cable.
It can connect to the router and can ping it successfully.

Cheers

hi quackers, I have checked the workgroup, that was my first instinct and they are all the same - Flat
no spaces all the same.

The ip addresses are all asigned automatically so i assume they change but here are the ones i have.

1**.1**.1.64 Steves PC
1**.1**.1.67 Laptop
1**.1**.1.68 medie pc.

If i manually asign static IPs would that maybe solve the issue?

What would i put as dns server inputs and subnet gateway mask numbers aswell?

Cheers
