Hey guys.

Currently run 4gb 800mhz on my system (Q6600 / Asus P5Q Pro / 8800GT)

The MB can take up to 16gb and upto 1200mhz.....SO

Would another 4 gb of 800 (Team elite) or a new set of 4gb 1066 mhz make a better upgrade !?

I mainly do 3d graphics / video editing on the machine.

Cheers
Mat

you would need a 64 bit OS to utilise all of the RAM but i think more is better for rendering graphics and video, if you could upgrade it all and get faster and more you would be set :)

Oopps sorry - Yeah I'm running Vista 64bit, so no worries there.

Yeah I'm sure more & faster would be the best way to go. But the 1066 is still double the price, so at the moment it would be. +4gb 800mhz OR new 4gb 1066mhz !?

More RAM definately helps along the lines of 3D graphics and video editing. DDR2 800Mhz RAM is plenty enough for this. You'd only need the 1066Mhz RAM if you plan on overclocking your CPU to extreme levels. So with this, you can easily save your money there if budget wasn't much of a problem.

what programmes do you use and do you open several at the same time, the reason i ask is because i recently did the same and went for the 8gb, i do quite a bit of photo editing and video editing plus some big games, and ive not been able to get my ram usage above 3.4 gig as of yet, and performance wise i dont think you would see a great improvement with faster ram unless you wanted to overclock.

3DSmax - Prem pro - PS - and After FX mainly - Yes I do use multiple heavy apps and the same time. The system is very good and does most things very well but always looking for that extra hit....especially if its a cheap one !

more is better in this case

you will not notice a difference in the speed due to FSB and your Q6600

to do with 1:1 ratio's

basically with your Quad you would not notice better performance after 533mhz RAM
this is something many people do not know

if you had a higher FSB of 1333mhz then 667mhz would be efficient and so on

im not sure what is like with the new Corei7 and quickpath

so in this case go for more

yeah for 3D graphics and video editing, i would go with another 4gig set mate, @800MHZ and the cpu @ 2.4GHz you wouldnt really benefit from getting higher speed ram tbh :)
Not only this but, when you start adding more modules, your ability to OC is going to drop off some anyway compared to 2 modules. Since you already have DDR800 the best option is to add more of the EXACT same memory to avoid any compatibility issues.

I've had Crysis using up 2GB by itself (1440x900, Very High textures), never mind anything else I was running, but you've probably got your paging file active which would most likely reduce the amount of RAM used by a bit. So if you weren't multitasking at the same time as playing a game, yer chances are you wouldn't pass about that.
