More PC madness

You could just throttle the retard who thought up political correctness.

Best one I heard was in the paper the other day, the term "Political Correctness" wasn't PC :D

Classic stuff.

We're all gonna look back at this in ten years time and laugh so much.

Bengali folk tale called the Emperor and the Tiger.

A mock Bengal Tiger will pace a giant catwalk as fire lights up a forest to the sound of Bangla drummers and dancers.

What a ****ing liberty....

I wonder if the ethnic origin of the majority of the council has anything to do with their innapropriate disrespect and lack of understanding for UK culture

There is absolutely nothing in that article that suggests Guy Fawkes in being replaced because of political correctness. It seems to me that the council is simply having a change and/or exploring other cultures - something that would have been praised 5 or even 10 years ago.

The sun just after another cheap story as usual

From the article:

"Even potty local MP George Galloway agreed. The Respect party leader, shamed for fawning to Saddam Hussein, said: “Guy Fawkes was one of the few men to enter Parliament with good intentions.

“It beggars belief that this council should organise a Bonfire Night without a bonfire or a Guy.” "

lol yes, we all know the smell of gun powder was to do with Fawkes "good intentions" :p

Why is it a cheap story to see £75,000 spent not on a traditional UK event such as Bonfire Night but on some alien tiger walking thing with wierd bangra music?

This event is not in addition to Bonfire night but INSTEAD of it. Hardly a non story.

i've read quite a few of these PC madness things on here that the councils are doing, but are people from ethnic minorities actually offended by these british customs?

has anyone made a formal complaint saying - i think it's an insult to me and my religion that we have christmas lights up and bonfires etc.

i'll wager that no one has, it's just the councils trying to look PC when in fact people from different ethnic backgrounds aren't really offended.

my little 4 year old lad came home from school a while ago with a little clay ornament he made with a candle in and told me it was to celebrate Diwali, and I thought it was great that they are teaching about other cultures and understanding and respecting other people's backgrounds, history and beliefs.

it seems just a shame that councils these days can't do the same for british culture as well.

let's celebrate everything!!! :)

Perhaps I was too subtle in my previous point...

if you check the constitution of the council you will find that this has been decided by a council composed of a majority of ethnic minorities of asian origin... they are not exploring another culture, they are expressing their own in place of ours...

Sounds quite cool.

Don't see the problem, last year they seemed to have had a huuuuge Bonfire night to celebrate the 400th anniversary, this time they're doing something different.

I love the fact though that in thelondonpaper it quoted a Tory spokesman saying "It's political correctness gone MAD!"..raised a chuckle :p

It may be quite a cool thing, but why should it replace anything?

You make it sound like every single bonfire night celebration across the country is going to be replaced by a tiger. It's a change in one event in one city as a one off this year
