I now have 9 points on my license and my insurance renewal is knocking £900

Anyway, I am looking to get something small, sensible and economic... and wanted to know peoples opinions of Peugeot 206s (prob looking at the LX HDI 1.4) :)

£900  some people would love to be paying £900

But buying a new car is going to cost you way more then what you will get in insurance savings?

Not when I can sell my car and buy one for the same money e.g 206 HDI

I agree with all the replies, but all I wanted was some comments on the choice of replacement car... not comments about how people wish they had insurance of £900 etc etc ;)

whats your current car?

1.6 Zetec sport Fiesta - not exactly a supercar, which is why I begrudge paying such high premiums. Although I will miss the full leather interior :(

Is it worth down grading a car? Are you really hard up for cash or something?

It's not really the money - more the principle. I have a bloody fiesta and just because I have been caught straying just over the 30mph speed limit ( :o ) a few times they wanna bend me over and....

Plus I wanna get a diesel as I do a fair few miles and could do with the fuel savings :)

I cannot imagine you saving anything significant moving from a 1.6 Fiesta to a 1.4 HDi 206. From the way you were talking I was expecting you to say you drive an Impreza Turbo or something.

Premium for 206 is half what the Fiesta is e.g. about £450 :)

My Fiesta is group 10 insurance and the Peugeot is only group 4. Can anyone suggest something of similar size to the 206 (has to be diesel) that may suit my needs

You will loose more money in the cost to change than you will save in the insurance!

Even if I buy a car that is of equal value to the one I sell? Plus I'll be saving money each day by having a more economical motor

Just checked Parkers and the highest 1.6 Zetec S Fiesta is Group 8. Who are you getting quotes from at the moment?

Sorry, my bad - I was one insurance group out - looking on Parkers confirms thta it is group 9 (it's a 2001, 1.6 Ghia 5d - which has the zetec sport engine and all the extras as well).

If all your worried about is the premiums, then get a fiat panda. small, cheap to buy, cheap to run, economical

Have you tried shopping around for a cheaper quote? Couldnt you downgrade to a smaller engined fiesta?

Believe me I have shopped round till the cows come home and most online insurance places will only let you enter 2 convictions e.g. 6 points worth
