Hi folks.

A couple of days ago device manager was showing a problem with my floppy drive. I DO NOT have a floppy drive but I rebooted to see if the issue would go away. When I rebooted my PC locked up on the BIOS screen (the one which shows the logo). I figued I had a problem with my keyboard which has been showing some signs of wear lately. Today I replaced the keyboard and when I got to the Logo screen I pressed Delete to enter the BIOS. I can't get any further than the first screen. It says "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded". It gives me the option to press F1 to continue or press DEL to enter SETUP. Pressing either results in nothing. Then I get a beep code which sounds like an old-fashioned siren, high, low, high, low... From reading elsewhere I see that this signifies a CPU temp problem. I dismantled the CPU fan (which is working normally) and cleaned up the CPU and heat-sink and then re-applied some thermal paste. I rebooted and now at least I'm not getting the temp beeps but I still can't get past this first screen.

Anyone got any idea what could be wrong with it? If I can't get to the setup screens then I don't know what to do.

I'll be eternally grateful for any help on this.

Exactly right mate, thanks for that. Actually you posted about 5 mins after my wife derided me for making such a basic error, lol. All's well with the CPU too, thank the Lord. Thanks for the help on this, it's very much appreciated. I need to remember to never rule out operator error in future.

Thanks again.

Hi again. I'm still having some problems with this mobo I'm afraid.

Now my problem is that I can't seem to get ot to boot from the DVD drives. As far as I can tell I've set everything in the BIOS to allow this but I only get as far as the "Verifying DMI Pool..." and the process just hangs there. I've been getting lots of help on the Abit boards but the general consensus seems to be that the mobo is toast. I don't understand how this can be the case, it's not even two months old and in all other respects it seems to be performing as expected. I just can't shake the feeling that I'm missing something obvious.

Has anyone got this board or similar and experienced similar problems? I'd dearly like to find a solution to this.

If the board is toast what should I do? Can it be returned to OCUK or will it have to go to Abit?

Here's a link to the thread over at Abit for reference.

I look forward to any suggestions you folks might have.

Gordon.

Sorry to bump this thread but I've just used the webnote system to tell OCUK about this problem and I'm awaiting a reply. In the interim can anyone think of anything I might have missed? The board seems to operate fine in all other ways except booting from CD. As such I'd prefer to be able to remedy it myself rather than go through the whole returns procedure.

Please help.

Gordon.
