More RAM or more and faster RAM?

I am slowly upgrading my PC and just got a Phenom II six core and very cheap used HD4870 X2 to add to my current HD4870 :)

I am now thinking about the RAM. At the moment I have 4Gb of duel channel DDR2 800Mhz. I am thinking of doing one of these 3 options.

1 Add another 4Gb of DDR2 800Mhz to take me to 8Gb

2 Sell the RAM I have now and get 8Gb (4 x 2Gb) of DDR2 1066Mhz

3 Sell my RAM and ASUS M3A32-MVP DELUXE motherboard and get a new mother board and 8Gb of DDR3.

So my question is if it is worth spending the extra on faster DDR RAM or even a new motherboard and even faster DDR3? If it is worth going for DDR3 what would be a good value motherboard that can take 4 way crossfire?

Thanks

Hey Bmwww :)

In your boots I would ride it out with what you have . . . now is not the best time to buy a new AM3 motherboard . . . now is not the best time to but another 4GB of DDR2 . . . and now is not the best time to buy an 8GB kit of DDR2 (££££££££££) . . .

Sit it out . . . . wait till next year when AM3+ (DDR3) motherboards are released . . . at this point your 4GB set of DDR2 if sold should fetch enough dough to pay for an 8GB set of DDR3 to go along with your potential new AM3+ motherboard and your current AMD® Phenom™ II X6 ;)

If your struggling with 4GB atm then see if you can "Haggle" yourself a used set of DDR2 to run alongside what you have (£50 ish?) . . .

Your ASUS M3A32-MVP DELUXE looks like a fine board for the moment, don't see a huge reason to upgrade a AMD® 790FX actually unless you clicking for USB3.0/Sata III etc?

Cheers Big.Wayne. That is a very good point I think i will sit on what i have now unless some used DDR2 800 comes up at a very good price :)
