i've got the ud3r with i7 930 clocked to 4ghz with 6gb ram.the ram is patriot viper.if i get another 6gb,will it effect my overclock or can i just install it

It will effect your overclock. I've had my 920 @ 4.0 with 12GB but it ran too hot for my liking. (not sure if thats the RAM or not)

have more ram modules puts more strain on the memory controller thats in the CPU.

unless u really need 12gb, then i wouldn't bother

i7's don't handle 12GB so well can cause all sorts of problems with stability.
