More still to come from Canon ?

We've seen the Canon 400D launched and two new L lenses but I think Canon has one more announcement still to come in the form of the Canon 1Ds MKIII. I think this will have a 22mp sensor and incorporate their newly developed DIGIC III image processor (D3 confirmed here)

With a new image processor, sensors and cleaning system I will also expect Canon to update the 30D and 1DMKIIn in Feb next year.

So, if you are thinking of upgrading your current camera (10D/20D to 30D) and unless you absolutely need it now then my advice would be to wait.

I have reasons to believe this is true also.

Care to share them? I'd prefer to see something concrete as I'm close to buying a 30D. The way I see it Canon upgrade every 18 months so a 40D wouldn't be out for another year. So I could wait till Feb, nothing happens. Then its only another 6 months to wait till Aug. By that time its another year... Or I could get it now, have a backup 10D, a better LCD, better noise, faster buffer + fps...

I don't see why Canon would wait until August 07 when everything is ready to go into the new camera in time for February.
Sometimes Canon do break the 18 month cycle, look at the D60 to 10D release, there was only 6 months between them and the people who paid well over £2k for the D60 were quite annoyed that the 10D had more features, was better built and launched for approx £1400 shortly after, just ask Spie :)

With competition so strong in the D-SLR market Canon can't afford to wait when everything is ready.

At the end of the day it's your choice :)

:: EDIT ::

Cykey – you could buy a 30D now and sell your 10D next year if you felt any new cameras were worth getting.

Even if they do bring in a 1Dmk3, it's hardly going to be reasonably priced. The existing 1D2s costs around £5k, and the mk3 won't be cheaper.

I doubt my 10D would sell for much. Its the annoying wait thats the problem. Wait till Feb, nothing happens. Wait till Aug.... wait wait wait :) Maybe I should look for a 20D as that will still be faster and have better noise handling than my 10D. That way if the 40D does appear I won't be like "aw shoulda waited" :)

Just get something 2nd hand :) Then when something new comes out, and you're getting more work, you can buy that and have a backup that's not a 10D that could die at any moment!

Well I am picking up a 30D tomorrow (Although thats due to replacement reasons regarding my old 20D)

My reasons are based on the competition market and how Canon have released this 400D. I know it doesnt sit in the mid table of dslr's but It just doesnt feel right having it have some features over the semi pro range. Also, everything Nikon are diong at the moment and Canon must respond. A 1D mark III or IIN wont get people to stick with Canon as its only aimed at few people. The majority of users are now at the 350/400D/20/30D product range.

When the 30D was released I thought to myself (huh, well thats nothing to shout about)

Id say get yourself a 30D and if you must, just sell it closer to a release date or just after (It'll still hold some value as long as you keep it in good condition.

well, I'm curious if they might bring out the 40D, the 400D is very close in price to the 30D and the 30D was never what it should have been really. So there is some logic in it, certainly I expect something to turn up soon.
