Right i installed my hd 4850 so my current specs are

Phenom II 550 x2
Hd 4850
Gigabbyte ma 790x ud4p
4x1gb ocz gold 800mhz
800watt psu (cheap one) Hipower

Right first off, my boot into windows is very slow, it whizzes through until it gets to the xp loading screen whre it stays for about 1 min 30secs, it isa very annoying, when i tried unlocking the core it just stayed on that screen and didnt change, is windows 7 worth investing in?

2nd of all on ati overdrive when i do test custom clocks it always fails even though its on stock?, the temp never goes above 65.

Any help is great

Thanks

make sure your psu is giving stable voltages even on max load, if that seems fine, then start looking at drivers.

the boot into windows depends on how many programs you have que'd to run on startup. and also the speed of the HDD. speed of drives is basicaly

IDE 5400rpm -> IDE 7400rpm -> sata 5400rpm -> sata 7400rpm -> sata 10,000rpm -> Solid state drive.

list is of AVERAGES. it WILL varey between HDD's. starting from the slowest reaching the fastest.

if you wanted faster boot up, a lot of people get a 30gig SSD and install the OS onto that. for power on times of up to *14 sec*

Ok thanks i will look into SSD's, hmm i might change my staretup menu aswell :/

also this is weird again, i am using onboard sound but when i use the drivers to test if they work i get the sound but when i play a tune i get no sound?

any ideas?

Get rid of that terrible psu. Buy yourself a quality (Enermax, Corsair etc) 5-600w psu. I really don't understand why people skimp on the psu when building a pc. The psu is the single most important component of a rig and cheap ones never deliver their stated power and when they fail are more likley to take other components with it.

What card did you change from?
