My aim is to get the internet to see multiple external IP addresses from one ISP connection. Is this possible?

Ultimately this would be; VMware session 1>host PC>router>internet IP address 1. VMware session 2>host PC>router>internet IP address 2 etc.

I'm thinking it's not possible as I'm only ever assigned one external IP from tiscali, but I wonder if it's possible to setup some king of port forwarding to a proxy for one application and a different port to another...am I on the right track here?

If VMWare session 1 and 2 are using different ports then you only need the one WAN side IP address.

Well there's no reason it's not possible technically, if you can get the extra IP addresses. Then either map the IPs through with MIPs or the equivalent, or better, have the public subnet on the inside of the router...

Yep - just find an ISP that give out a block of IPs.
Some give you a /29 (8 addresses, 5 usable) with some reluctance, other give you pretty much what you want (so long as you can justify it on the RIPE form)

I was with A&A and I had a /32 (1 address) for my router external i/f, a /30 (4 addresses, 1 usable) for the router -> firewall interlink, a /29 (8 addresses, 5 usable) for my DMZ and a /27 (32 addresses, 29 usable for my LAN).
