Do those that own them here, honestly swear by them?

I first bought a pair of Zalman 5.1's when they first came out over 2 years ago, I thought they were really good at the time ... even if I looked silly wearing them! Then I read about these new Medusa Speedlink 5.1's and they seemed to do everything the Zalman's did but with a mic and mini amp and more connection cables I'd ever need, so I bought a pair, cant say the surround sound was any better than the Zalman's though, but they were a lot more comfy to wear, after a few minutes of putting them on, you hardly know they are there to the feel.

Anyway, I broke a join at the earpiece on my Medusa, totally my fault and even trying to repair it myself left me with very broken sound ... So bought another pair of Medusa's (they were both std vers) And that's what I'm using just now.

What I've noticed in both medusa's I've owned is a fair bit of interference, and I just cant seem to get rid of it, also when a mobile rings near the headphones, you get a slight crackle of interference when this happens. I can kind of dull down the usual *slight* background interference by messing about with the on cord controls, but this also puts out of balance any slight 5.1 effect I had set in the first place! I've read before about this interference noise on the Medusa's and to be honest, I cant remember if the Zalman's had it as well as I only owned them for a short while quite a long time ago.

What I'm really getting to is, do other Medusa owners have the interference probs as well (or maybe I'm too fussy?) and mostly do people who use and have used 5.1 headphones honestly think 5.1 is worthwhile in headphones? I'm beginning to have my doubts. I have 5.1 desktop speakers as well, but due to my night time habits they are mostly redundant.

I'm honestly thinking of buying a really good set of normal Headphones (not USB) that have a mic (Plantronics?) and don't mind much about 5.1 anymore. Any recommendations?

Be interested in seeing other peoples thoughts about this ... One area I do give the Medusa's a massive heads up on, is comfort, for sure the most comfortable headphones I've ever tried and that's also very important for me.

PS: Audigy 2 SB card here and connections are correct. Doesn't seem to matter where I move the Medusa pre amp to, I still have an annoying interference sound in my Medusa's when its supposed to be silent, fine if I'm playing music or in a game or whatever, it gets drowned out then.

I've owned both sets too and came to the conclusion that-

1) the sound quality isn't great, even considering the price
2) the 3d sound isn't very good

I did prefer the Medusas though btw. Sound quality on the Zalmans was shocking.

I think a better option is an X-Fi and some stereo Sennheiser headphones (wired). The X-Fi (and the Audigy 2 to a lesser extent) can do a pretty decent 3d effect on stereo headphones, and even at £30 something like Sennheiser headphones will give a far superior sound to Medusa/Zalmans. I realize, depending on what soundcard you have, this option could cost far more.

I kind of wonder what sort of performance the Sennheiser headset offer (Tom's review posted in another thread wasn't all praise toward the Senns). If you go stereo headphones, you'll also need to budget in a mic.

That said, I -reckon- that the Koss KSC-75/Sportapro + mic would be competitive with the Senn PX100/PX200 + mic combo, while costing less.

Thanks Fish, good to see I'm not alone in the rather dubious quality's of 5.1 in headphones.

An X-Fi is on my list for end of year comp upgrade and I'll give the wired Sennheiser headphones good consideration.

Apart from that, any replacement headphones will need to have a good quality mic and be full ear headphones like the Medusa's and be at least as comfortable as them.

Good headphones/audio are important to me, and I don't mind spending a little more on this.

hmm answered my questions before i even asked :)

Saw these headphones for sell and was thinking about getting them. i have 7.1 sound possible from my soundcard but dont have the space where my pc is for a full surround sound so these looked pretty good.

Are there any good surround sound headphones out there?

I've got the Medusas and I do get a fair bit of interference at times. I'd say that's my main problem with them, I find the sound quality and surround sound to be quite good. If the amp was properly shielded it would probably solve the interference problem - I suppose Speedlink had to cut a good few corners to get them so cheap. It'd be nice if someone brought out a really good set of 5.1 headphones that cost a bit more but were actually focused on high quality sound rather than low cost...
