More Time Tweaking Than Gaming

Ive been into building PCs for not that long really, my first build was a e6400 with 8800gts. I spent 3 months solid research on hardware, previously knowing jack sh**t about anything "PC" and found the whole experience satisfying. My main purpose was to game but i found after building it i spent more of my time tweaking than gaming, benchmarks etc, even when i know my rig will play games good. I annoy myself sometimes. Why dont i just play games like i want to? Maybe im just an overclocker and thats that? Anyone else in the same boat?

i finished my first build about 3 weeks ago, and i feel exactly the same. I'm always thinking 'yeah it looks great, but i bet i could get it to look better'

in the last 2 weeks i have oc'd my cpu and set up Raid0, and i don't really need either!

i do enjoy seeing how much i can do.

and i'm replacing my gpu this week so i'm looking for a new one at the mo, and will probably play around tweaking that when i get it rather than actually use it!!

After you get the basic idea there's nothing special about overclocking.

On top of that there's only so much you can overclock your hardware before you have to spend yet more money for marginal and ever less useful increases.

If you can still find amusement in overclocking the same hardware after several weeks of the same then maybe that's just what rings your bell.

I enjoy that side of PCs almost more than the gaming (mainly because most of the games out right now are seemingly a bit ****), though not benchmarking, bores the crap out of me...

I do like researching new stuff, alternative thinking and what have you though.

I just can't wait for another nice story-oriented game to enthral me, safe in the knowledge that the hardware will allow me to (last game like that I played was Mafia 2, and before that, probably Crysis (questionably), COD4 or MGS4).

Dragon Age 2 in 3 weeks. Got it on pre-order. will be the first new game i'll play on my system. after that i literally can't wait for Deus Ex Human Revolution if they ever release it

I got a bit obsessive trying to eek another couple of fps on heaven last week even though it would be barely noticable. As someone new to it, it's hard to resist trying to get that bit more performance out of your machine if you know that it can be done;)
even though you know you will hardly actually see the benefits

To be honest, while I like story driven games, MMOs and RPGs don't do it for me whatsoever - as the story is often a bit loose as the character has to change for you. FPS and driving games are my thing mainly, though action/adventure games can do ok for me too - as can RTS games (looking forward to Homefront, Crysis 2, Dawn of War 2 Retribution and so on. Also cannot wait to drop Black Ops for my online FPS fix - as it is so bad. It's worse than MW2. Never thought I'd be saying that. Treyarch suck).

Dead space 2 maybe? not played it but enjoyed(is that the right word?) the first one.

I loved Crysis, but am looking forward more to Deus Ex. But maybe i am being sucked in by the awesome trailer.

I hate to say it but maybe Crysis is a great example of what us tweakers/overclockers are about, bringing out a game to make us tweak/upgrade our equipment to make it run as best as possible. If PC gaming is going to survive surely games like Crysis and Metro are gonna have to come out 2-3 times a year? To make us upgraders/tweakers interested? Please correct me if I'm wrong cos I'm ****ed. Love you all, peace
