**Inconvenience - toilet tank lid broken**

Not the best start to the morning. I accidentally broke the lid for the toilet tank. Suffice to say I know nothing about toilets. The lid has a hole in it for you to push the button. Where can I buy a cheap replacement? Many thanks OcUK.

The lid is in pieces on the floor, thought a picture of the button mechanism would be helpful as it goes through the lid. Where do they typically put the model of the a toilet? Does that say "1G" in the picture - is it of any significance?

Thank God it was just a very minor "dropping the kids off at school" - that toilet has caught me out badly in the past!

It isn't nearly as bad as you might think. The toilet takes an age to fill the tank back up (this is where I have been caught out in the past). My house mate had used the toilet just before me which I did not know. So I went for a quick poo, flushed and nothing happened. As I was in rush I decided to fill the tank manually, lifted the lid and forgot it was on a cord because of the button. As soon as the slack went I dropped it and it smashed cutting my hand.

How on earth have I just bought a i5-3570K - a highly engineered piece of tech for £170 and a cistern lid can come in between £150-200!!!!?

Do you keep a bucket close at hand for such instances? :D

Surely if you would have spent more time 'crafting' your item then it would have re-filled.

No we don't :p

I didn't realise the toilet had been recently flushed or that the tank was filling. If I had realised either of these, I would have brewed it longer for work.

No I don't know the intricacies of a toilet flushing mechanism. The few times I have filled one up - done it through the tank, never been a problem before.......until today :o

In case of the worst case scenario.....I needed to get the whole toilet replaced. How much time/money will a plumber typically take to fit one in?

As previously hinted, my DIY skills are next to none :o. This isn't my toilet either - I rent a from a friend. Hopefully it won't come to that and if we have to do it, I am sure we (house mates) can put our heads together.

Fair enough. But it was at the moment; I have spanked most of this months money on my upgrade and knew this would hurt my wallet, I cut my hand, it wasn't my toilet and there was a poo still in the toilet :o

Don't go to B&Q, Homebase or any other DIY shed.
Go to a plumbers merchants, and take the smashed up lid, only place you're even likely to get a spare.

Then go home and try find yourself a nice husband to do these things for you in future :D

Cool - found a few in London. Once I get the brand/model I will get straight on it.

Hahahaha - yeah cooking/cleaning/computers I do well. Cars/DIY - not so much :o:(

LOL @ Pike. Not sure if serious :(

LOL @ Renton :p - this isn't my toilet, I don't think my landlord (one of my best friend's mother) would be too pleased with gaffer tape. Plus - it is in too many parts.

EDIT:

Agent_Smith357 - she was there when it happened (heard it from her room).

UncleRuckus - I wet the bed so not much left it the tank :p
