Morrowind crash when picking up papers

Just got Morrowind today (GOTY edition - brand new for £3

).

When I finish filling out my class etc. and pick up my release papers the game makes my PC crash, black screen, screen goes into standby.

It happens at exactly the same place every time, I have updated my drivers to the latest ones (uninstall, driver sweeper in safe mode, reinstall, reboot).

Using Windows XP SP3 on this PC.

Any ideas?

Can't help you with the problem but its an excellent game, much more varied world than Oblivion

Is it fully updated? Not sure if GOTY has the final patch installed?

I think that there might be some other fan-made improvements to the game that improve the renderer/remove bugs, so it may be worth trying them out.

Tried updating your sound drivers or changing the sound settings? You're already in game, so it might be triggered by a sound playing rather than a graphics issue.

Yep, got 1.6.1820 on here.

Hopefully the fan made patches will help, gonna try them now.

Not got latest sound drivers installed, but have tried playing Morrowind with no sound & it still crashes

when you mean no sound - you mean sound is disabled on the game or pc?

sound accel down to zero?

rollback to old, old graphics drivers ? try it on the lowest graphics settings possible?

Tried disabling sound ingame first time round, will try disable through device manager next time

Sorted, this PC didn't like running it at 1920x1200, possibly because I'm running on a AGP 7600GT at the moment. BFG taking their time replacing my 8800GTX
