Well ive just started playing morrowind for the first time ever after liking oblivion so much. But i see theres no map travel, does this mean you have to walk and find your way everywhere? Are there any improved UI mods which have a better map or anything? because although it seems pretty good its so confusing!

Thanks.

Those big insects will transport you to major cities (stilt striders?). Mages guild will teleport you if you're in the guild. Otherwise no, get running. It's way more interesting than oblivion for running. There's cool things everywhere. And it's fun following road signs etc. Like actually being on an adventure :D

There's striders located at most of the major towns or just outside of them. Can pay for a ride between towns. Or boats from coastal towns.

Dont need to be in the Mages Guild to be able to teleport. I think its free if your in the guild, but theres a fee if youre not.

Upon seeing this thread, I now have an urge to reinstall and play. Thankyou sir :)

It really pays to explore in Morrowind. There's so much more to find and do than there is in Oblivion. :)

Also, since there's no fast travel except between major (and some minor) settlements, and since the landscape isn't so flat and boring, you get much more of a sense of achievement when you stumble on something really cool.

And a real sense of HOLY <insert expletive here> THESE GUYS ARE TOO STRONG when you meet very very powerful enemies in the wild.

OR

A real sense of aggravation when youre attacked by yet another Cliff Racer ;)

This is the thing that's missing in Oblivion. Wondering into some cave thinking yeah I'll clear these guys out here I come, then the next moment you're running for your life from something that can kill you in one hit.

Oh god don't remind me :(

*SCREEECH*
"OH FFS NOT AGAIN"

I like how they made reference to that in Oblivion... "I hear Saint Jiub has driven all the cliff racers from Morrowind." :p

i miss morrowind, oblivion was too user friendly tbh, as much as i love it though. but TES morrowind gave you that sense of "****.... what now? oh! lets go attack that guard!, oh, i got a quest cos i killed him!"

oblivion with its quick travel made it a lot easier to become one with playing the game.

it's great having to explore all the time, but to be honest, once you'd played for 100hours and were on your 3rd character or something, killing all the cliff racers gets a bit tedious. I just used the <coc "location"> cheat in the end - just like map travel.

Well there are plenty of Mods for Morrowind.

There is one which stops the wildlife from trying to achieve extinction.
There are others that add to the travelling capabilities.
There is also a mini quest in the game which gives you something that makes a huge difference to your speed, but that would be a spoiler ;)

links here

Just took a look in my mods folder, the one that adds extra SiltStrider ports is called Sorefoot Enterprises :)

I wonder if theres a mod that removes cliff racers from the game...

i would have thought so lol, with such a massive player comunity, its bound to of had some programming nut get so mad and remove them little devils

Whilst im here I might aswell ask:

Did anyone ever play the game as an archer type character? I trained this type of character in Oblivion but in Morrowind I found my arrows never seemed to hit the target. Any suggestions?

There is as it happens a "cliffracer remover" mod

Also Just remembered there is another quest which is called "Propylon Indices" which helps travel but it's a damn big quest

While I'm here I might as well answer :)
Not played for a while, but I did use bows in morrowind and I think they just made it much easier in obliv. Like they did with half the stuff. The addition of the physics is a nice touch but they dumbed so much of it down that it does my nut.
*mini rant over

Edit and my answer was carp, just practice with a bow a bit, it's not that hard just harder than obliv.

Eh? My archer used to own.

What level of archery/marksmen are you?

I was pretty low level to be fair (around level 20), and was quite used to the Oblivion aim and fire. It just seemed like my arrows would never hit the target. Im starting the game fresh tonight so I might just whack archery as one of my skills when I start and go from there.

I only took up archery in morrowind for the clif racers (was a battle mage of sorts), it became a bit of a mini game for me to see how far away I could kill em from as I wondered around.
