From the Steam page;

They spare no mercy, with survival demanding superior awareness, precision and instincts. Track down hidden sanctums of devout followers and discover your true purpose.

The dead litter this tattered landscape, but not all are without hope. The lost remains of defeated warriors are yours to discover. Awaken these Mortal Shells, occupy their bodies and significantly open your understanding to diverse masteries of combat.

Just loaded the Epic launcher & this popped up:

You are invited to be among the first to play the Mortal Shell Beta. This is a passion project from a small indie team united by one vision: to return people to that familiar, satisfying pain of a traditional soulslike - deliberate, measured, and merciless

Installing now, anyone else tried this yet?

No voucher unfortunately, I'd have taken a punt for £10 but I'll hold off for now, I've got about 10 games on my unplayed list as it is so I should just get on with playing those.

Turns out the vouchers expires this morning! I see they ended on the first of November but I assumed end of the day! Ahh well same I'll hold off

I'm playing Sekiro at the moment. So could be interested in this.

Sekiro is my first type of this kinda game. At first I hated it, but now I see how good it really is.

Tough as nails game.

Dark souls, and i presume from what ive seen Mortal Shell, is much slower than Sekiro.

I love the souls games and Bloodborne but really couldn't get on with Sekiro, might be something I need to give another go at some point, I did a couple of bosses but the stealth side of it just didn't work with the combat for me for some reason.

It takes time to get in too. Honestly I hated it at first. But persevered. GOTY 2019 so thought I'd give it a chance.

And the game opens up a lot. It seems really closed at the beginning but after a while the game opens up and you have a lot of different paths to take.

If you like this kind of game you will eventually enjoy it once you get in t it.

My problem with it is the deflecting mechanic doesn't feel satisfying at all, it feels like I'm doing nothing. Like a partial parry in the souls games but it's a core mechanic.

I'm playing this on the Series X at the moment. It's so frustrating, but... cool at the same time. It's hard to want to continue with this sort of game though when you die right miles away from the spawn point...

Any tips for dealing with multiple enemies?

From what i remember, harden is very powerful, hit an enemy then harden so they bounce off you then counter with another hit. Dont treat it like Souls parry, its totally different, i remember doing a lot of hit and run through the game as full on attacking mobs was just suicide.

I think I'm slowly getting to grips with it... I've got all the shells now and have upgraded my weapon somewhat. I did just get an ending of sorts by joining a dude called baghead...

That said I've not done any bosses other than the one protecting one of the shells.

I kept getting my arse handed to me by one who spits fire and the big fella in fallgrim just loves impaling me. I think I'm enjoying it... I keep going back to it so that's good. Quick resume definitely helps.
