Three weeks ago my now wife and I were married.
For the past couple of years we've had a mortgage on our current house.
The mortgage is in both our names as is the house and I'm assuming Deeds etc.
My wife of course now has a new surname which is different to what it was when we took the mortgage out.
Getting the name on the mortgage changed was easy - popped into the Halifax with a copy of the marriage certificate, signed a document and that is all sorted.

I'm assuming that there are house details/deeds that will be in both our names, again this will show my other halves maiden name and we want to get that changed so that we both appear on all of the paperwork etc.
Do we need to involve a solicitor to get this all sorted out or should The Halifax be able to get that all sorted for us too?

I've got no problem speaking to a solicitor - I'll use the same one who helped us buy the house, however if I don't need to (and pay their fees) then of course I'll take the other options.

Okay...
I'll have to check exactly what paperwork we've got.
However when we bought the house we were sent a massive folder of documents by our solicitor including all of the original receipts etc for the house.
I'm 99% sure that one of the many documents we have in our possesion are the deeds.
I certainly won't swear to that (as I too would have thought they would have been held on to).
I'll have to check tonight.
