which software gives the best results.

I used to use Motherboard Monitor - but I dont think it now has my board.
Speed fan dont show my fan speeds either - and the tuniq is driving me nuts ! lol

Board : intel bad axe 2

Regardless of the software, i thought they would all display the same results because the readings come from the same sensors?

Most read the temp via a motherboard sensor, but tat and coretemp read the core2's internal sensors for a higher but more accurate temperature.

when clocking and checking a C2D, TAT and speed fan read the same at all times.

Other tools where between close and rubbish. Now I would use TAT on intel and speedfan on AMD.

Does depend on the motherboard a little, on the Intel BadAxe boards, if a Core2 processor is detected, then standard motherboard sensors seem to get adjusted to match the first core. On most other boards reading the motherboards sensors leads to fictional results, especially asusprobe, guess the sendor on asus boards is like 10cm away from the processor :P. Even with P4 Northys Asus boards always read 10-15 degrees lower than say, an Abit board.

Anyway, regardless of the board, Intel TAT always reads the temp directly from the cores, ignoring the motherboards sensors, and getting the more accurate results. TAT for the win.

Unless you have an intel motherboard (which appear to link the cpu temp directly to the first cpu core), then speedfan's reading the motherboard sensors, and TAT is reading the CPU directly.

Coretemp is 'supposed' to read the temps directly too, I dont know why coretemp would vary at all from TAT. Personally, I would ignore everything except TAT.

For anyone using Rivatuner I would also recommend the Riva tuner C2D plugin.

The temps it displays are about 2 - 3 degrees lower than those on TAT at idle but when the system is under load they actually end up matching. It also allows you to see everything that's going on in your case in one easy to read display and it also allows you to have temp readings displayed in your tool tray. A very cool tool.

Get the Rivatuner Core 2 Duo Temp Monitor Plugin here

explain these temps then, speedfan and TAT do not show same for me.

Intel E4300 at stock btw.

I sympathise, Gigabyte's EasyTune says 43 under load... TAT says 63. Dammit, I thought it was doing really well until TAT ruined the mood =(
