Hi Everyone,

For now (not future proofing) which set up would give me the best gaming platform out of the following:-

i5 3470 and HD 7870

or

FX 8120 and HD 7950

Both would have 8GB 1600 RAM and all other components would be the same.

Thanks

Hi,

I have a couple of friends who are both building new PC's and they are both selling their old rigs. Am thinking of buying one of them and then giving my old PC to my kid.

Okay, that makes sense.

Well, the AMD CPU isnt great atall, Piledriver (8320/8350) is a jhuge improvement over the 8150.

The 3470 would be my choice between the CPU's but 7950 would be my choice of GPU..

Anyway you can combine them? :D..

It would be helpful to know what motherboards, coolers, PSU's and cases they come with too..

Try and find out what type of 7870 its is too, as they had a few versions, the 7870XT(LE) has the tahiti LE chip in, which is a 7950 chip... So its a de-clocked 7950..

Keep you're eye out for that, if so the intel one is a steal.

The Fx rig with the 7950 would make the better platform to game from.

That said it depends on motherboard, if the FX is in some crappy matx effort then I would go for the i5 set up, the 7870 isnt that far behind.
