A ticket on a motorway when you have a car with cruise control?
I wouldn't mind, but the slightly higher speed just ends up with people typically catching a traffic jam ahead, and thus no actual time saving. Just pointless.

If you're happy to effectively wind down a bit mentally, set your CC at 70 and you'll not have issues.

Me too. Actually 67mph is my preferred speed. Fast enough to get there in good time, slow enough to not have to play with the 118d / A180 / A3 brigade.

Generally set ACC to 71/72 which is real world 70ish. Still end up cruising past the vast majority of people.

This is why I love adaptive cruise control - set it to 70 then just let it sit behind whoever is in front. If the traffic is doing less then I’ll just sit there with it, just will never break the speed limit.

Stick my cc at 70-72 and laugh at all the idiots racing about getting stressed. I catch up with them at the next lorry / set of lights / traffic jam anyway.

The 10% +2 is discretionary, it very much depends on the circumstances.

I imagine it's fine if overtaking for a short period but to use it as a hard and fast rule as an imaginary speed limit is misguided.

If you get a NIP you have to suck it up.

These days and M60 usually set it to follow a truck so about 58 or 60. No overtaking just chill.

I use speed limiter these days as you can easily regulate speed when you need to, but sit at a constant speed when you want to.

I set my cruise to 70, 79 and expecting to get away with that is cray cray.

If i knowingly go over 70 and get a ticket, then that's purely down to me and the risk i took.

Not sure what the complaint is here. There is going to be a cut off somewhere, and 10% + 2 is quite well known to be it....which is what 79 in a 70 is.

I doubt it is the most borderline one ever. It is just right on the borderline, like many many others will be.

This, and occasionally being a rebel and pushing it to 77 (75 on gps).
Driving an EV though just that bit extra really is noticeable on the m/KW reading.

The ACPO guidelines are just that, guidance. If the officer dealing with the offence, whether roadside or in the ticket office decides they want to be an **** then they can do you for +1, thought this is unlikely to fly in court.

In any case the current guidelines don't contain the 10% +2 anymore and the device tolerances set are +2 upto 66mph, 3% above 66mph.

Nope, have to inform your transport manager/company if you get points for speeding etc, but if you get points for using a mobile or careless/dangerous you will go in front of the traffic commissioner

I'm told so long as you got the ticket in a car rather than an HGV then you don't need to inform your transport manager/employer.

I'm going to mention it at my end of week debrief but can't see it being an issue as it was in my car not truck...

That's just 10% + 2 written differently no? Considering all the minimum values are 10% + 2.

I've had a NIP for 79 in a 79 before. Sniped by a mobile camera on a gantry.

It's a safe speed to travel at regarding just being pulled over in standard conditions motorway, but not for a fixed/mobile camera. 78 however is fine.

Interesting that the threshold for default summons appears from the above to be 96. I always thought it was 93 so even more leeway.

That’s exactly what it says and confirms. Having said that if anyone is daft enough to set 10% plus 2 as their cruise speed, then they are just pushing their luck.

OP said they set CC at 76 though even that I wouldn't do personally - in theory setting CC at 79 in most cars your actual speed would be around 75-76 and as mentioned before 79 actual the displayed speed would be over 80.
