Most cinematic game you’ve played?

I’ve been playing through Shadow of the Colossus (PS4 remake) and it really is a breathtaking game… almost feels like a piece of art!

The ‘cinematic visuals’ mode, lack of intrusive HUD, HDR music, photography / cinematography (?!) and just the eerie loneliness of the world really makes you feel like YOU are exploring the world, rather than a character. I think it blows something like Breath of the Wild completely out of the water with how ‘cinematic’ it feels…

So as of this moment, it’s the most epic and cinematic game I can recall.

Edit: I think this is something that is best experienced yourself and without spoilers of the gameplay, so going in blind is recommended.

The runner up for me would be some of the bombastic moments from the God of War series (probably the 3rd game).

In both examples, you really feel the weight and size of absolutely massive foes that dwarf you… so maybe there is something about the ‘scale’ of the action that makes me feel that way.

What would be your picks?

Probably Death Stranding for me, at least off the top of my head, and actually for many reasons similar to yours for SOTC (also a fantastic game).

The only issue with Death Stranding was that it was broken up with menus, but walking back to a city with Low Roar in the background is unlike anything I've played before

Yup I’m looking forward to giving this one a go :)

So many games have "cinematics"; take Kojima's games for instance but SotC is a good shout for pure gameplay and landscape. I recall playing the original on PS2 and was agog how on earth the system could power such a presentation.

More recently I can also think of Journey.

Not sure, TBH, but you reminded me I should play SotC before my PS+ runs out:P

Death Stranding has that cinematic feeling to it, so does MGS3 and so does SotC.

It's not something I can fully describe but I don't really consider TLoU "cinematic", even though it's up there as one of my favourite games. To me, "cinematic" is striking a certain ambience and aesthetic that, for example, the new GoWs don't do (but 3 somewhat did) and neither does TLoU but DS, MGS (3/4 particularly), SoTC and Team ICO stuff in general definitely do. It's not just about having movie-like cinenatics or writing.
