Hi,

I'm after a F11 5 Series, and looking at the most cost effective way to do this. A 520d SE would be fine (standard spec has everything I'd need), so any additional/higher spec should be considered a bonus.

Options are:

Lease for 3/4 years from a leasing company then hand back
Buy on dealer finance over 3/4 years then hand back / sell
Buy used, run for 2/3 then sell

Lets say I'd want to keep the car for either 3 or 4 years (whichever results in the lowest average monthly cost). Ignore servicing costs / insurance etc. as they're similar regardless of option.

The car would need to be under warranty at all times and would do 10-12k miles per year.

Cheers :)

4 year lease works out at about £390 / month

Buying a 1yr old car, running for 3 years then selling works out, including extra warranty costs at £343 / month.

I'm no math genius but running the car for 2/3 years is going to cost less than 3/4 years.

So option 3.

Looking at average cost per month so you'd expect 3/4 years to be cheaper that 2/3 years.

I'm surprised that the buy 1yr old, run for 3 years option is not that different in cost to a 4 year lease (with the lease having the benefit of owning the car from new)
