Just done a fresh install of XP Pro and after BIOS has loaded I get a choose operating system with three choices all the same XP Pro. Just looked at my folders and each user has got duplicated folders and there are three copies of the Windows folder, Windows, Windows, Windows.0 and Windows.1??? How can I put this right without doing a complete reinstall and any ideas why has this happened????

just looked at my boot.ini file and there are three lines for the OS which ties in with the 0 and 1. Can I simply edit this and delete the other windows folders and user settings?

How did the install go? was it interrupted a couple of times and started again?

Are they complete replications of the windows folder? (check sizes and number of files/folders etc). If they are exact duplicates, I would do a
Code:
chkdsk /f /r
first to see if there are any errors on your hdd.

If that comes up clean, try editing the boot.ini and deleting the extra folders.

You may end up finding that a reformat and reinstall is necessary.

I used my own nlite installation and it did restart once so that explains one extra installation. I didn't format the hard disc before installing so that may explain the other installation. The folders are different sizes but there again I've been on the net and added favourites etc so that may explain that. I did the reinstall due to a virus and am worried now that I should have formatted the hard drive but I though reinstalling lost all the old files anyway!
