Behind you... Naked!
My lads just built himself a sweet little PC and its his first build. He is unfortunataly devastated at its poor performance

Hell, I keep waffling - Trust me, this has been editted many times.

Ok, the Motherboard is an MSI B450 Gaming MAX.

Not the best by a long way, but it says that it works with all GEN 1, Gen 2 and Gen 3 CPUs.
But does it?

I want to buy him a great CPU but again, I dont want to spend sily money on it as I cannot afford to.

He can then concentrate on buying himself a decent GPU ( Unless the APU Capabilities are seriously good enough? )

Anyone suggest any CPUs that are worth going for?

You could look in to getting a 5800X3D.
No APU though, so you will need a dedicated GPU.
Ok I will have a looksie.
I think he should be fine as I wil lgive him a half decent card to play with while he saves for a good one.
Dude, with your Sig,and your post count, I'm wondering why you are even asking. No offence.
None Taken. I used to be fairly knowledgable, but some time ago I had an accident and my head is not what it used to be. I am often scatterbrained and so at 1pm I might do something like write a tune, or write a small routine on a program I may be working on, I then go and have a cuppa or a piddle, and I will get back and my head is simply gone to the dogs.
I had to learn to walk and speak and do many things but lots is just nuts. I have a serious issue where I have a mixed memopry of things that happen and I can take months for my head to organise what is going on, yet my childhood I can remember like a movie in intricate details that utterly astound my parents, even to the point that I know every numberplate of every car and motorbike that my parents owned, I know exactly where we went in each car and even conversartions that my parents had when in teh car, not only that, but I can name and in many cases date everyoen who came to the house and for what reason... Now thats mental. But try to remember what I had for breakfast today... Ok, its chilli cheese on toast but thats only cos Im not finished LOL
As for the specs... I bought the best I could afford at the time, and I wanted Intel and AMD so these were bought roughly the same time.
You don't state what the current cpu or ram is, what exactly is he unhappy about if he doesn't yet have a gpu? Please list his full current specs.
Oh sorry...
Mobo is an MSI B450 Gamer
CPU is a Ryzen 5 2400G and its 3.6Ghz
RAM is Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB

Obviously, the RAM could be more, but on my main PC I am using a 16GB RAMDISK and so I am only left with 16GB to play with and it does not affect the speed in playing anything I want to.

The CPU Speed should I would have thought, be good, but he is also saying that its not just the games, but converting videos and stuff is also slow... Again, I am not there as he lives in his flat in another town.

2400g isn't great. But should be fine with something older and low end. Thinking rx580 level and below. But with latest bios that board supports the 5000 series so 5700x3d should be a beast. If you're looking to save some money a 5600 or 5700x would also be perfectly serviceable gaming cpus so long as you're not trying to squeeze every last frame out of the highest end gpus.

Hmm? Ok, I have certainly had a few people suggest this CPU, so I wil lhave a good think and let you know what I have decided... Thanks guys.

The other day I got a possible touch of luck.
I have some pairs of RAM and I have a pair of 8GB Corsair Vengeance that are a matching pair for the ones in his PC.

I have paired them all up and that Ryzeon now has a nice 32GB.
I also plopped in an x580 and so its also half decent with basic games now too! - Even with the 2400G in it, its doing ok ( its is, shurrup! )

The only issue I am now thinking about is the RAM... its only 3000Mhz

I hear that Ryzen are very fussy when it comes to RAM.

Mine, I got as a bundle, and so I knew the RAM was right, but now, for this one, I am not 100% sure? - I am about to buy the CPU but the last thing I need, is to also buy RAM too! - Especially when I already have it. ( Although the x99 system has 8 slots LOL )

Will the 5700x3d or 5800x3d be ok with that RAM or will I need to buy RAM too?
I am honestly thinking of giving my lad my old 7700K setup and taking his but then if I do that, I wont get such a good CPU, and just plop for a better than the 2400G one, if it means to spend on RAM too - in that case, as it will be yet another spare PC then I am not going to waste too much money on it am I?

Argh, I want to help my lad out, but I am also fancying this too! - The Wife is moaning at me cos I got loads of Pcs and they are just piled up behind me doing nothing!

So anyway, will 3000Mhz RAM be ok with those other CPUs?

Ok, I have now just come back from my lads flat.

I am such a swine, I really am.

I have given him my old I7-7700K PC, its got 32GB RAM, Win10 and its running a test RAID setup, with 2x120GBSSD for C: and 2x2TB Toshiba Blacks for D: and it also has a Creative ZX and a pair of ATI x580 cars in SLI and so its a fairly decent little PC and will play all his games that he wants to!

I have had that little PC off him, and so I have now just bought the 5800X3D

See how it does play games, and I will be using Linux with it

Thanks again guys.
