Hi,
As a hypothetical, what is the most powerful spec that can be built from OCUK parts? As this is hypothetical, no budget need be applied, I am simply wondering how powerful current desktops can be. Additionally, how much would these systems cost, and what sort of benchmarks could we expect from them?

Well that's fine, I've got no cash to upgrade, just want to know how powerful things can be at the moment, may have been better to wait for ddr4 and Haswell befor posting this, but then, the thread might survive anyway. To be honest, I was expecting a lot more than 10k to be thrown in as a figure.

There's a limit to what you can put in your basket.
This was a build suggested before

Major overkill.......
i think the most important parts of this are the energy drinks and mug.....youll defo need those....
only thing that would make this better is if the EVGA SR-X mobo was in stock and the Xeon e5-2687w was also in stock, then this would be £14k ish and two cpu's

There defiantly is, but we wouldn't be able to put it in a basket, also limited by what OCUK actually sell. If you had infinite money you'd just pay intel to make you your own chip, lol.
At the very least you could buy x100 and see which one clocks best.

Well here is my attempt! Just the tower. No silly peripherals. :D

A bit pointless with no justification so here goes.

2 highest binned Intel workstation CPU's sat in the craziest desktop board for them (Asus Z9-PE-WS would also do but OCUK don't stock them).

Slam it full of fast corsair dominator RAM.

4 way cross fire 7970's as these can be water cooled and only take up a single slot each (more VRAM).

Decent RAID card with battery back up hooked up to 4 SSD's for boot and 4 HDD's for storage.

Beautiful sound card.

Whack it all in a well designed case that is lovely to work with and stick it all under water job done!

Only thing missing is I would fill the last PCIe slot with a high end network card, either Intel 4x GB ethernet or a 10GB fiber card.

And using desktop parts that't about it, now start saving:eek:!

(also just noticed I have nearly £300 of bitspower fittings and no waterblocks for the CPU's so throw in a couple of XSPC blocks etc)
