Most programs won't run any more?

I've just finished the disk check and that has done absolutely nothing.

I've also just downloaded RogueKiller but i cannot start it. I just get an error message saying 'This application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)'

Does anyone know what this error message means?

May be worth downloading an ISO of Memtest and running it for a few hours

It wont run it

I downloaded it and tried running it with PowerISO and it just says the file is not supported.

When i try to unzip the folder it comes in, it doesn't unzip anything???

you need to burn the iso file to a cd (use something like imgburn) and then boot from the cd

edit: another thing, have you tried without your overclock? I had a similar issue with some programs when my overclock went unstable

I'll try de-overclocking the CPU now.

can u get into cmd and type in sfc /scannow

No, i get the error 0xc0000142 error message again when i try to open it.

Haven't got the overclock now and i've still got the same problem.

Couple of last suggestions. Download the trial of HDTune and see if your drive is showing any errors in the health SMART section.

You've sank a good few hours into this already, maybe time to format?

You could try launching system restore from safe mode (just type system restore in the start menu search box) but tbh it sounds like your OS has been chewed up pretty bad.
