chapel

need a bigger lens for deer as the sigma 70-300 i have just cant cut it at the high end, the chapel could have needed a filter but am not sure which one would have help c&c welcome (be gentle though) am still learning

I'm in the same boat as you regarding the lens. I would consider the Sigma 100 - 300 over the 50 - 500. Much better lens. You can pick up a Canon 70 - 200L for a good price online these days though! Pop a teleconverter on there and your sorted.

I find the sky overpowers the shot though (deer one), any way you could tone it down?

I guess select all the white with magic wand, then make a new layer which only affects that selection? hmm I'm not that good with PS either!

Small tip: resize photos on deviantart too like not more than 1000pix wide or 900pix high, then you can see the lot on one screen and not have to scroll about

Love the church pic but you're right about the sky being over exposed. I had a bit of a play with it in photoshop, made it HDR and tweaked the levels and contrast. hope you don't mind. Here's the result.

Not at all mate, it's still your photo!
It was taken with your camera in a location you found, the perspective was one you chose with your eye for a good shot. All I did was use a computer to enhance it a bit. I've been using photoshop for 5 years or so and as you said, you're not familiar with post processing.

I forgot to mention that I ran a 'clouds' filter over the clouds as well to bring out some of the contrast. To be honest I think the HDR version looks a bit CGI whereas the original looks like a real photo :)

Don't be hard on yourself mate it really is a great shot. You knew that it needed a filter or some PP which is another credit to you to be able to see that there was an issue that needed to be addressed. It all leads to you taking better photo's in the future and becoming a better photographer all round. :D

Chin up and less of the :(

:)

You need to clone the lens flare out. Its at the bottom right of the church. it does look a little cgi'fied. and for some reason the clouds look like thay have been pasted from another picture.
