Hi folks,

The time has come to get my mums car back to tip top shape. It is a little Ecoboost Fiesta with <14k miles and I have delayed some MOT advisories for some time now -
  1. Nearside Rear Sub-frame pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
  2. Offside Rear Sub-frame pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
  3. Nearside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
  4. Offside Rear Tyre slightly damaged/cracking or perishing (5.2.3 (d) (ii))
  5. Nearside Front Shock absorbers has light misting of oil (5.3.2 (b))
  6. Offside Rear Shock absorbers has light misting of oil (5.3.2 (b))
So items 3 and 4 are easy ones; but items 1, 2, 5 and 6 are "slightly more" complicated. I imagine the bill from Ford will be something outrageous. It is a local garage job and let them worry about it? As part of MOT or separately?

Thanks

Definitely don't go dealer for the shocks - they love to charge £££ for doing those (often not even a difficult job).

I had one rear trailing arm bush on a 3'er, which was nearer £150 all-in, and, (if really need doing) front shocks, what? £150/shock and £100/labour,
so I'd, have thought reasonably expensive for all - at a private garage I trust/Cambs
( found I couldn't get the old bush off arm myself , rear shocks, did, were easy, but some internal trim dismantling time)

The rear is two bolts IIRC (fitted coilovers to my MK6 Fiesta lol), but the front is a bit more complicated isn't it? Pinch bolt, top nut probably seized on......

All DIY-able really but I can't afford any emergencies mid-job lol.

The car doesn't make any noises when you wobble it? Could misting be from elsewhere?

I've limited experience but in my experience when you get light misting it generally doesn't produce anything noticeable bouncing the vehicle by hand but some slight sloppiness creeps in the handling/ride then one day they just go.

Regal's on Kings road in Kingstanding has a good rep. They have got expensive though (most places have I guess). Junction 1 M5, ANR back of Mcdonald's is decent place. Doesn't over charge for work and is happy to chuck in a new bulb for free when it fails during an MOT etc.
