Had MOT today on a Citroen C1 14 Plate. Have had the car for about 4 years. Mileage is around 61k...

The car passed the MOT but, these points were raised. Should i be overly concerned and get them sorted out asap?

  • Rear Sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i)) ADVISORY
  • Front Sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i)) ADVISORY
  • Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement perished (5.3.4 (a) (i)) ADVISORY
  • Offside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement perished (5.3.4 (a) (i)) ADVISORY
  • Nearside Front Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement perished (5.3.4 (a) (i)) ADVISORY
  • Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement perished (5.3.4 (a) (i)) ADVISORY
 
You need a new car mate sorry.

Normally you'd have to pay for someone to scrap it for you, but if you let me know where you are I'll take if for free.






...... Honestly I wouldn't be bothered about that at all. Just keep an eye on the bushes but unless it's knocking or feels off then don't worry

No noticeable issue to be honest...
 
The corrosion ones, no. Things can be corroded but still structurally sound.

The others, no. Suspension parts like bushes can be worn but still functional.

So overall, no. However, you should have had this chat with the MOT person to get more of an idea. However, it's fine to drive, otherwise it wouldn't have passed the MOT. The question is how long will it be fine to drive, and they would be able to give you an idea of that. It would have been failed if there was an imminent danger of a serious mechanical failure.
 
The corrosion, you could sort out, because it's easy.. basically something you can do on the drive with a wirebrush and some lanoguard.. The number of Fiat 500s with corroded rear subframes is nuts, they really do corrode though and whilst they can last 3-4 years once its started, they will get worse and worse and start to become a liability, then it's cost prohibitive to fix (unless you do the work yourself), but a few hours scrabbling around with a wire brush and lanoguard (or similar) would help..

Even the suspension bushes can suffer from corrosion based wear, and that too can benefit from some protection..
 
The corrosion is probably light, I'd get it wire brushed now and sealer put on it. The bushes, I'd get sorted sooner rather than later as tyre wear, grip and handling under braking will eventually degrade costing you potentially more in parts.

I been quoted £550 to sort out all the issues in my opening post...

What do you think people?

Unfortunately i am not fit enough to try and fix these issues myself as i suffer with a really bad lower back (bulging discs)...
 
Corrosion - probably surface rust which as above can be wire rushed and treated.

Bushings - if there's no excessive play in them, you can probably get away with putting them off, but id expect to have to replace them in the next year or two when they start knocking.

I see....

I used to do work on my cars but cant now....gutted.

2nd year that these issues have been mentioned on the MOT....

How are they fixing subframe corrosion for £550.

They aint....

I booked it in with another garage that a friend has used for years....£368.......

I will see if i can get the rust tackled at a later date...
 
Had my mot done last week. Vauxhall 2006 plate. It passed, but I was advised to change the rear brakes and disc. He stated 'where will you get the brakes done?' I said I may go to K___F__. He started laughing.
Anyway, I got a mobile mechanic who charged £145. I hope that was a good deal!
