I bought a car in Novemeber and was certain it came with the mot certificate, now I have had a nother look at the documents I have I only have the previous mot certificate which expired in March 2007, now the car is taxed so obviously it passed the mot.

But now I need the current MOT certificate to assign my private registration!

What can I do?

Ask the previous owner where it had it's MOT and then ask the garage for a duplicate.

It's not impossible to tax a car without an MOT, you just need a lot of car Tax documents and a busy post office. Guy car-share with had his a week before he realised it was Jun 06 of the last MOT. :D

I have checked online and my car is mot'ed until March next year, I'm at work at the minute so it could be that its lost at home somewere but if i dont find it that mot check website gave me the tel number of the garage it was mot'ed at, so I would contact them.

Cheers for the advice guys.

IIRC, I did not have to produce my MOT last July when I renewed my Car tax, as it was already linked at the DVLA.

i wish it was that simple

i had a wonderfull argument with the post office because my insurance certificate didnt have the word certificate on it. I had the insurance cover note, which duly explained, the premium paid, the insurer, cover date, confirmation of receipt of proof of NCB etc..

but they wouldnt have none of it, and it was blatently on the database, as i renewed over the internet without issues.
