gotta get the street triple MOTed this weekend but one of the return springs has broken on the right hand footpeg. It occasionally gets stuck up now which is interesting in traffic :o is this an mot fail point?

It will be down to the discretion of the MOT tester.

Lifted from the VOSA/DVSA MOT motorcycle inspection manual.

Under Section 6.2 - Seats, footrests & transmission, it states;

"1. Check all other parts of the machine for defects which might make it dangerous to ride on the road."

Reason for rejection

1. a. (ii) "A missing or insecure footrest"

So your footrest isn't missing and I wouldn't say it's insecure (as in about to fall off) but the tester may say it's insecure as in 'not staying in position'.

I've just checked my Street, looks easy to change the return spring, one little circlip, slide the pivot pin out and replace spring. Can you not pick one up before the MOT?

Doubt he'll even notice, unless it gets stuck up or is obvious at a glance. Whenever I've had mine done, they don't go round trying every part on the bike, it's more obvious safety issues they check on bikes.

Find yourself a local independent MOT place and be friendly to the bloke doing it. It's amazing what kind of things MOT places will let slide (small plates, missing footpegs, etc) if you're polite and build up a bit of rapport at the start.
