If a car fails on a couple of items and you take it back in for a retest within 10 days will they just test the items it failed on or a whole test again?

mine failed on the cv boots, took it back and saw the same mot tester a week later and all he did was raise the car up and check the boots and give me a pass certificate so I guess the answer is no they dont check it all again just the bits it failed on (I would make sure you get the same guy though just in case)

if it leaves the premises then yes it should get a full retest

but most (read all) are lazy bas's and just check the fails normaly

Guess I had a lazy one then :) saved me about an hour so I wont complain :p

With the retest its always been like it, but now garages (well some) are inforcing that if the motor leaves the garage then there in there right to charge for a full mot again because there suppose to do a full mot, but if it stays on there premises & they do the work then they only have to check what work they did for the mot & not charge again.

Clear as mud :D

erm yea actualy think it might be, my local had it on a leaflet, but we have a fairly new car so it passed.

best thing to do is ask them about there retest policy.

it used to be 14 days i think, I had my motorbike mot'd last week he said it was a free retest there, but because I took the bike away he had to do a full mot,
its all because they have to log into the network for the mot's now, so big brother see's the time logged in & time they finish.

Place i went to didnt do repairs - so you could take it away, do it yourself or whatever, and still get a free retest within howevermany days.
