My girlfriends car is up for mot the end of this month (vauxhall tigra 1.6)

Just wondering what is the average price to pay for mot's these days? and how long do you get to fix any problems?

Do you get charged now to taking a car back for a re test?

last one! is there anything i should go over before taking it in?

cheers

Theres a guide to mot checks in the back of a haynes manual if they do one for your car. I think theres still some garages doing old style mot's otherwise the new ones dont do the free retest thing anymore it seems

It's £44.15 for the test. You have as long as you like to get any issues fixed, or as long as your current MoT lasts.
Most places do a free re-test if the car fails.

Check the obvious like lights, seatbelts, any damage that could cause injury, tyre tread depth, tyre pressures etc.

I had 24 hours to get the car fixed to qualify for a free retest (luckily it was only a bad earth on the hazard lights) with the new computerised MOT.Last August I paid £37 for the test

if your car is due a service then get this done, especially the brake pads as they check this for MOT.

also you can check your lights, brake lights, tyres, indicators, wiper blades, water jets, hazards, seat belts are working fine

Really? I paid £39 in Aylesbury ~2 weeks ago and there's a garage in a village near here which charges £30.

I MOT'd the van and a metro in the last 6 weeks, local garage has gone up a whole £2.50 to a staggering £35 per test. Dunno about retests as they both went straight through :D

just looked a kwick-fit online and they do a 30% off if you book online. so its £30.

Any problems with them? i cant find any quotes of a oil change? hmm

A little tip I spotted is that you can cash tesco vouchers in for 4x their value when you are getting the oil changed or a MOT at national garages

i just paid £44 for my mot, new style.
do you have to stick the little blue sticker on the window??
another q about mots.

does a car that originally had rear seat belts have to have them fitted to pass if it has had the rear seats removed?

what about if the rear seats where fitted but quite clearly unusable, as in a roll cage diagonal bar going across?? does it still need rear belts?
