Hi all, my girlfriends car just failed the m.o.t and they gave me a quote to fix the problems. Can you guys just check it out and see if the quote is decent please!

* Read sub-fram corroded and seriously weakened
* Offside rear (inner sill) suspension component mounting prescribed aread is excessively corroded
* Offside (floor to sill) suspension component mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded

They quoted £100-150 so fix it all. He said it's all welding really.

Does this seem reasonable?

Girlfriend isn't too happy and I wanna make sure the garage isn't charging too much! Thanks in advance :)

Sounds like a rust bucket! What is it? Thats reasonable yes, as id image that ll take a fair bit of his time.

It's a 1997 Suzuki Baleno (she wasn't seeing me when she bought it!!!!).

I feel for her! Cant belive its rusting so bad at that age though :( Sounds like its been sitting in the sea all its life :p

I was expecting you to post a french car with the amount of rust you said it had!

Sounds like a very fair price to me for all that work!

Not all french cars are bad! You ll find it hard to find rust on pugs under 10 years old :)

That sounds reasonable for welding. You normally get quoted silly amounts when the W word is mentioned. Just make sure they don't lash it up, ie check the weld is neat, take some pics and post on here for us welders to inspect if necessary. Basically if it looks like pigeon excrement and we think it's been done badly you can take things further.

Thanks!

Hmm, I'll try and take some pics when it's done. Not exactly sure where is being welded (limited knowledge on these things) but i'll try!

i wish my car was costing that muchto fix :/ paying £300 for a gearbox rebuild and clutch today, and thats very cheap strange a car that age is rusting away so bad!
