Hi all

my MOT on my mini is up today! and it is being taken off road tonight. however for the MOT i know what needs doing and will be doing it myself. however the place i will do that work is 3mile down the road.

is it legal to drive it to a place where i will be doing the required work? as it will not be a offical MOT repair centre its going to!!

plus i couldnt get it rewired (required for the MOT) untill next week so could get all the work done before hand.

any clarification would be great

Can only drive it on the road if you are going to a pre booked mot appt iirc. So if its not booked into an official MOT centre you will be breaking the law.

I'm not sure that this is true - from memory you can drive it to a garage in order to allow it to have work carried out to make it roadworthy.

Call the DVLA - they clarified the point for me when I looked into it a couple of years ago.

Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.

This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.

You can also drive it to a place if you're having work done on the car to get it through it's MOT
