Hi there,

My car is due an MOT test shortly and being 6 months from its service I'd rather not get it checked up pre-MOT and just wait till next service.

However, the rear washers are not working (front washers and both front and back wipers work).

Are the rear washers required to be working to pass an MOT test or is it just the front?

Also my car is a Mark 5 Astra I believe (late 2005), are there any things I should try to get the rear washer working? Intending to try warm water to see if that helps. Bear in mind I am not mechanical minded :P.

Thanks,

Moose

No rear wiper/washer is required. If there is one, it does not have to work.

In case you want to fix it: Does a puddle form under the car when you try to use the washer?

No puddle forms that I have noticed, and the pump is definitely working since the front washers work and I can hear it whirring when doing the back ones.

You could pull out the rear washer jet nipple thing and see if it's actually attached to the washer tube. I had to reattach mine; bit fiddly, but it works now.
Although it's not watertight as the washer fluid drains back along the tube after a wash and therefore has to be held down for a few seconds before it comes out the rear..

Try shoving a pin down the washer, see if theres a small blockage, but like chappy said, rear one isn't necessary for MOT, take it off or someth I guess?
