MOT

The answer is to take everything, why not? Its not hassle. I have not needed any docs at all on previous occasions though, most certainly not the V5.

You must bring your V5 form with you and your current MOT certificate. This is what it states on the back of the letter they send you out, although I would say you would be fine with just the V5 form.

I've never taken my V5 with me:eek:
Although I do get the MOT done through the garage that sold the car to me when it was new.

Not sure how the MOT system works in England, but in Northern Ireland you have to bring your V5 form with you as they check the VIN number on the car against that on the registered owners document. We have test centres run by DVLNI that we have to go to :(

You dont need the v5, i am certain of this. I have never produced it. Where i am not certain is the question of adding onto the old cert date whether you need the old cert to prove the date.

I've been driving for 15 years and NEVER brought an old MOT or V5 in with the car. Never been asked for it.

You don't need anything, at all. I guarantee that 100%.

Whether you need anything or not really isnt in question now, you certainly do not as you say. What i cant remember though is if the expiry is automatic or not, if you do the MOT early? Or do you still need the old cert?

Jez, the OP is in Northern Ireland, they have different driving laws to us. I have no idea what theirs are mind

I'd take your old MOT certificate and the V5, to be safe

Alternatively, just ask the test place when you phone to book?

Locking wheel nut might be handy for any remedial work too

Nothing needed, did mine two weeks ago. I carried the docs in case but i knew from previous MOTs i didn't need them really. However i did notice the new expiry is a year from the actual test date, not the old due date so i've lost like 7 days on the old one.

Just not possible under the new system i'm afraid, you better check again.
All you need to test a car is the Reg number and last 6 digits of the VIN. Upto 30 days credit is automatically added by the computer including on new cars never tested before as the computer already knows when it was first registered. If your new MOT certificate is dated exactly 12 months from the date you get it, either it had ran out, or it wasn't due in the next 30 days.
