Took my car in for an MOT today. Failed all round on drop links and near side rear upper track rod end wanted £300. Took it to another garage they checked it and only one drop link has a split and just an advisory on that, £30 paid test with them and passed.

I noticed no knocking when driving it either so I knew it was fine.
Always get an second opinion.

it is shocking, i knew myself the car was fine with no knocking.
had to pay for 2 mot's but saved me a lot of money by going elsewhere.

Was it a Kwik Fit?

They said both rear tyres on my sister's car were so worn that they were shown ply and cords through, and brakes having no affect and broken front coil spring.

Took car elsewhere and all it needed was a coil spring. Tyres were still 5-6mm tread.

Funny that everyone has different experiences with kwikfit. I could have pointed out to the tester 3 major fails on my car last time it went in but it passed with no advisories. Incompetence is rife in the industry, I think that's no secret.

I take mine to the local Halfords. They even repaired my rattly exhaust heatshield last time without me asking them to and didn't want anything for doing it.

Main Vauxhall dealer here in Swindon has always been pretty good to me.

Took the Corsa in December for its MOT (now 9 years old) and all it needed was two new rear indicator bulbs. They replaced those with no additional labour charge.

Not bad for a nine year old car but then I'm only doing around 3.5 - 4k miles a year in it. Also (AFAIK) still on the original factory fitted exhaust which has got to be some sort of record.

I detest Kwik Fit and ATS with a vengeance (Halfords okayish), would never use them other than as a last resort.
