Maybe I'm too cynical but... was this perhaps deliberate?

See what you think - but it just seems a bit convoluted - I'd hope that they verify her story, like what witnesses were there and what did she say about her son. It's not exactly unheard of for someone who has cared for a relative for years to put a pillow over their head so to speak etc.

So he was a grown (albeit disabled) man and you expect his mother, with a broken arm, to summon the strength to carry him through an inferno? Do you think widows should throw themselves into their husband's grave as well? ;)

How was she supposed to move him, lift him into a wheelchair with one arm?

Where was her mobile phone? Who did she speak to? What time did she leave to seek help knowing there were fires and that she's got a son who can't move?

There were old folks evacuated in wheelchairs after contacting the fire department, alerts on twitter re: old folks stranded etc.. "land lines" being down doesn't necessarily prevent someone from seeking help.

Plenty of advance time to organise help, assuming he didn't have a bed lift or any portable lift to get him up and in to his chair.

But apparently, because she's got a broken arm then she has no agency to do anything else - it's not like it was some unexpected house fire that she couldn't remove him from, it's a big wildfire that they had a load of advanced notice of.

How big was the 32 year old? would it even have been possible for her to drag him out.

seems like they purposely show a picture of a young boy to mislead people.

Probably a lot of people who left it too late before they evacuated.. hard to know what really happened with a twitter post.

she might have tried to phone for help, but the roads were blocked etc and had no choice.

Probably better to point fingers at the people who started the fire, didn;t one fire department say there were a lot of reports of 2 guys with a petrol can starting fires
