Just seen the trailer for this, looks interesting. I usually like a psychological thriller! Apparently it's going to be really controversial.

Yea, Aronofsky has been my favourite director since Pi and Requiem. Been looking forward to this for a while, saw the trailer Sat night and it looks good

Surprised this thread isn't more popular, given how divisive this film is proving to be!

Went to see it Friday morning and it completely bowled me over!

It's crass, overly allegorical and it's third act nearly gave me an anxiety attack, but I loved every second of it. Some will likely state that it's a load of pretentious drivel and maybe it is, but by god is it ambitious. Amazed that a major studio greenlit this.

Noah is his only bad one so far imo

Requiem is one of my favourite films of all time, Pi, The Wrestler are fantastic, Black Swan I enjoyed a lot (only seen it once though), The Fountain is just WTF everytime I watch it :p

I think I'll wait to watch it at home, as I'm too much of a pansy to watch it on the big screen :p

Tbf, it's not really as much of a 'horror' as the trailers would have you believe. There's some tame jumps up until the third act, and then the movie just... well, breaks. It's beautifully horrific in it's execution and I won't deny that there's one or two scenes in particular during it's last 30 minutes that made me feel physically sick, but it's more 'psycho thriller' then it ever is 'horror'.

Tbf this movie doesn't seem like it'll be a 'fun watch' hence the lack of popularity. I'd be surprised if it did anything at the BO, but maybe I'm wrong.

edit - Just checked and it's done very poorly as expected.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Hasn't been marketed particularly well either.

The tragedy is that regardless of what you make of the flick, the fact it even got backed by a major studio is a miracle. The fact it's done poorly only serves to prove them right in there apprehension, and they're likely to get cold feet again for quite some time when it comes to backing this type of 'auteur', 'art house' film making.

I read that Aranofsky didn't want it heavily marketed because he didn't want it talked about too much for fear of spoiling it.

It doesn't really matter. If you tell people it's an Aranofsky film in the vein of Requiem for a Dream then there is a crowd who will want to watch it no matter what, and a crowd who will be immediately put off. You can't really outmarket that.

I still don't really know what kind of film this is, but the comments both good and bad are making me want to see it even more just out of curiosity!

It's a film that spends more than half its runtime looking at Jennifer Lawrence's face reacting to things. Only you know whether you can deal with that.
