Motherboard 1F Error Code...

Hi all,

I have a slight problem with a Biostar TP67XE motherboard (Socket 1155, P67 chipset). The debug LED on the board shows error code "1F" as soon as it powers up and I get nothing on the screen. All fans spin up and the power phase LED's light up etc, but it just won't boot. I've tried clearing the CMOS using both the jumper and switches and I also removed the battery for good measure. I also tried different DDR3 RAM in different slots too!

I've just been testing it with a Pentium G840 and it was previously running a Core i5 2500K until it started showing the 1F error (or it could possibly be IF?). It uses an AMI UEFI BIOS.

Anyone have any ideas what this code could mean? I've tried emailing Biostar but I know they can take a while to respond.

Cheers!

That's odd as P67 boards don't have onboard video support and I tried booting the board with an R9 280X and GTX 780 and still got the 1F error.

Have you tried the Gpu in the other PCIE slot?

Yeah I tried and it didn't change anything :(. Biostar replied asking me to reseat the CPU and memory (no luck)... They never actually told me what the error code means (and I did ask).

I wonder if the BIOS has somehow corrupted? It has a removable BIOS chip so I might ask Biostar if they can send a new one for me to test (I know Asrock do this free of charge).

What about flashing the bios to an earlier version, then update it. Unless you can flash it again with the current version.

I was thinking maybe the bios has become corrupt somehow, but I have no way of flashing the bios as the system doesn't post/boot at all.

Biostar sent another reply saying the 1F error is CPU related and to check for any damaged pins. All the pins look perfect! I'm now wondering if the latest/last BIOS for the board still supports Sandy Bridge processors (It was released to add Ivy Bridge & PCIe 3.0 support). I've heard stories about some motherboards losing Sandy Bridge support after the Ivy Bridge BIOS update (particularly MSI).

All sorted! Received the latest BIOS version from Biostar (not even on their site) and then got the ebay seller in the link above to flash it to a new chip for me. Received yesterday from the Netherlands and the board is now working 100% again :).

Now I need to decide if I should use the Biostar TP67XE or Asrock Z77 Extreme4 in my girlfriends PC (mildly overclocking an i7 3770K).
