There are so many Motherboard, Memory and cooler variations for this setup that I'm a little overwhelmed. The time has come now for me to buy my Skyrim rig!!

So could someone put together a £300-£400 combination that will allow for a good overclock on a 2500k? When I say good, I'm looking for max possible overclock without going to a proper watercooling solution

Is £300 to £400 only for the Memory, Motherboard and Cooler, or do you need the I5 2500k included in the budget?

Is there anything else that needs to be included in the budget?

I do need the 2500k included in the budget. I dont require anything more though.

And that guaranteed 4.4ghz overclocked bundle is rather tasty.

But I do have to ask what the difference is between the 3 Gigabyte boards available? Will I see any benefit in paying the extra for any of them?

The machine will be for gaming, and will run 24/7 as a media server for a HTPC(HudsonM1), 360 and a PS3. I will be adding in Hard drives 1tb+ as I fill my drives with HD media.

what your doing is paying an extra £23 quid, If you do a google for the 1st board it gets great reviews, the other boards do have better features but you have to work out what you want your pc for. You could always buy the better board and oc further, see the forum link below.

I run a Dlink sharecentre dlna nas box for my media files(better than having my pc on) so sadly I cant comment on the other questions.

great and a lot cheaper to run than a fully loaded pc :)

i2500k £168
asus p8z68-v pro £160
8gb g skill pc3-12800 1600mhz c9 £42
antec kuhler 620 £42 or the 920 £65

puts you a bit over budget(can go non pro on the mb to save £20) have you seen the msi cashback offer? could get the z68a-g65 g3 £150(you pay this at the time then send off for the refund) then after cashback it'll be £120/£125. another option is the gigabyte z68ap-d3(if you don't plan on sli/xfire) £82 or z68xp-ud3 £110.
