Motherboard advice needed

Hi Guys,

My friend wants to build an I7 based system in the new year and has asked me to help him come up with a new system. He is basically wanting a system capable of running complex engineering simulations mainly. Now I know some boards are better at certain tasks than others but what would you guys recommend? He has a complete system budget of £1000

Sounds like some heavy maths he will be doing there, is he interested in overclocking and how much RAM do these programs use?

The i7/X58 is definitely the fastest option for the kind of tasks he will be doing. I would recommend this motherboard, good value and will overclock an i7 920 D0 to 4GHz on high-end air cooling.

The more Ram the better as the program, cant think what its called, is resource hungry! He Cant run it on his athlon 64 4600+ based system as it keeps locking up
