My son is looking to upgrade his system and is aiming to run a ryzen7 5800x cpu should he go for a b550 or x570 mobo?

B550 is enough for most people , any particular needs,etc, wifi ?

If there's no intention for adding many drives during the years, B550 is enough and cheaper.
Basically well balanced X570 boards start from £200 level.

Yes, B550 will be fine.

What's there current rig ? 5800x is expensive for what it is currently which is a shame

Pure gaming , 5600x , 11600kf will do the trick and save a lot of cash
