Hi Guys

Ive currently got a i7-3770 processor, but Ive wanting a new overclock able processor for awhile now, the motherboard i have an MSI B75MA-E33 isn't compatible for an over clock-able CPU Ive been told. Kind of two part question what is the best value for money CPU to go for and then what is the best motherboard to go with it. Cheers all.

The answer really depends on what you intend to do with the system once overclocked.

As an example the G3258 Pentium will overclock like a champ and is very cheap, but probably not the best CPU for games.

What do you use the system mostly for?

If i was too buy a motherboard separately i may purchase one end of the month, what would anybody recommend for a motherboard??? Do they all run clock able CPU'S???

For overclocking you need a Z series motherboard. You can overclock the G3258 on other chipsets but that would be a downgrade from a 3770. Don't forget if you are going to go for Skylake with a Z170 board that you need DDR4 as well. If you decide to go for a bundle such as that posted above read up on the downsides first. Personally there are too many compromises for my liking and it's not a route I would go down. The downsides are:-

1) You have no power saving so the CPU runs full speed all time. BCLK overclocking like this means no speed step. An i5 Skylake is burning almost zero power anyway but I should mention.
2) Temperature monitoring with progs like Core temp is disabled so you need to use HWmonitor or the software provided in the motherboard bunble if you wish to check temps. This is ofcourse not the most accurate but does give an idea and like I said previously this i5 is putting out very little heat even with 1.4v and Prime its well under TJmax on Air cooler. Ofcourse the CPU will still throttle and shut down the system should cooling ever become an issue. But in my teating the headroom in terms of cooling was large.
3) IGPU is disabled.
4) updating the CPU microcode via BIOS update or software may effect the ovreclocking of this bundle. So once installed CPU microcode on provided BIOS should remain the same.
