Well i just got a boatload of hardware from WJA96 (great guy) and before i start transplanting stuff i thought that now would be a good time to upgrade. Now i'm not sure what to do here, because the motherboard i have now is rubbish. It won't let me overclock at all and the fastest memory it supports is 667 MHz. Now i have an E2140 which is liveable when overclocked, which is quite easy, and i can use that until i get enough money for something else. So these are my questions:

  • Is it better to buy a 775 motherboard now and use the E2140 until i can afford something like a C2Q?
  • Or should i wait for 1156 and me to have enough for the Mobo, RAM and CPU at once?
  • If i was to choose the 775 route what would be my best options based on a budget of around £100. 2GB RAM should be fine straight off, as long as i can upgrade later.
  • Do we know enough about the Core i5s and Core i3s to make an assumption as to what would be best for me? And how it would compare to the C2Qs?

Thanks for your advice.

I hate to bump this but it's quite important... and another thing, if i choose the 1156 route wouldn't i have to mod or wait for new retention brackets for my coolers? This just further adds to the price...

Someone bought an X48 motherboard, E2180 and 2Gb branded RAM on MM for £85 recently. I'd hang on until you get MM acess and buy a really decent motherboard for the E2140.

[Edit]If you REALLY feel the need of a new motherboard, send me an e-mail[/Edit]

That's a good idea actually, it hadn't occurred to me. But yeah, i think i will wait until i can get in. I'll have some more money by then as well.

And thanks for the offer, but no, i really couldn't.
